The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, variable geometry wing aircraft. It took on the critical role as the United States Navy’s primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet air-defense interceptor and tactical reconnaissance platform from 1974 to 2006. In 1976, it was exported to the former Imperial Iranian Air Force. Replaced by the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, the Tomcat retired from active service with the U.S. Navy in 2006. Currently, the Tomcat is still being operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force.
